LACOSTE
[ Life is a beautiful sport. ]
Lacoste is a French company, founded in 1933 by tennis player René Lacoste (who is best-known for inventing the iconic cotton piqué L1212 polo shirt that enabled better movement for players on the court). Its founder, received the nickname ‘The Crocodile’ — after betting the French Davis Cup coach a crocodile-skin bag — inspired the instantly recognisable embroidered logo that helped cement the French casual-wear brand as a status symbol of the 20th century. Lacoste sells clothing, footwear, sportswear, eyewear, leather goods, perfumes, towels and watches and other accessories. The crocodile logo remains at the centre of the brand’s understated designs.
